Intermediate Electrical Engineer

Position Profile

Reporting to the Portfolio Manager, the Intermediate Electrical Engineer will be involved in engineering activities associated with industrial control systems, and low to medium voltage power distribution design.

Position Accountabilities

Lead and provide technical direction in the design of electrical power distribution systems in petrochemical, oil & gas, chemical, or oil sands facilities. Plant systems include low to medium voltage systems, switching equipment, transformers and protection/control, as well as motor control, plant lighting, and grounding.

Contribute and provide technical direction within a team environment in the design of drawings for construction of the physical components of systems including, but not limited to the following:

  • DCS/PLC/RTU/SIS hardware design
  • Control panel layout and design
  • Low voltage power distribution systems
  • I/O wiring
  • Loop drawings
  • UPS design
  • Control console design
  • Instrumentation design

Contribute in the preparation of engineering, construction and equipment cost estimates for the systems listed above.

Contribute in the preparation of technical reports and client correspondence/presentations.

Review and contribute in the preparation of detailed specifications and contract documents for procurement of major electrical equipment as well as construction document packages.

Assist in the preparation of the technical portions of procurement documents (RFQs, POs), and review equipment tenders and vendor documents.

Assist in the coordination of project activities.

Visits to project sites and other Autopro offices for project related activities as required, including commissioning and startup support. (up to 30% travel required).

Project budget responsibilities for work packages assigned to the individual and their team members.

Provide leadership, mentorship, and development to junior and other intermediate engineers, technologists and designers.

Candidate Profile

  • B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer or P.Tech.(Eng.), registered with APEGA, with 4+ years’ experience.  EITs and Electrical Engineering Technologists may be considered with sufficient applicable experience.
  • Experience in DCS/PLC/RTU/SIS hardware design, control panel layout and design, UPS design, control console design, low voltage power distribution systems, I/O wiring and loop drawings.
  • Experience with developing construction work packages.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid working knowledge of the CEC.
  • Experience working with other junior and intermediate engineers, technologists and designers.
  • Canadian Citizen or Canadian Permanent Resident only.
  • Valid driver’s license and able to travel independently.
