The client engaged Autopro to install a new automation system during the construction of a new sour gas plant, one of the largest built in Alberta in the last decade. This project included the gas plant and two pipelines.

One of the pipelines will initially will take sour gas from the producer and transport it to another gas plant with a future tie in point for the the new gas plant.  Once the new plant is operational, the pipeline will transport sour gas from the producer to the new plant and acid gas from the plant to the second facility.

The other pipeline will transport sour gas from wells or batteries to the new gas plant.

The plant will sweeten the sour gas from both pipelines using an amine sweetening process.  The sweet gas will be pumped into a sales gas pipeline. Natural gas liquids will be pumped to tie-in points in the plant. The acid gas will be pumped through the pipeline to the second facility for further processing.

As the site's preferred automation systems consultant, Autopro was initially tasked with the responsibility of completing a control system study, generating a request for proposal (RFP), and completing the evaluations that ultimately led to the selection of a successful control system vendor.  

During the execution of this project, virtually every process area in the facility was affected. Autopro’s responsibilities included project management, electrical and instrumentation detailed engineering, procurement support and materials management, software development and implementation, controls check out and commissioning, operations training, and startup support for automation.
