NGL Extraction Plant DCS Support

Our client was a major petroleum transportation, storage and natural gas liquids extraction company with an existing motor load problem with six two-speed motors fed from a 480VAC UPS. Running these motors with up to 300 motor starts per day was placing unnecessary strain on the UPS. With these motor loads, the UPS capacity was exceeded. These ventilation fans were critical, as they would cool the enclosures for two turbine engines.  Any failure of the fans would quickly lead to overheating of the turbines, potential damage to equipment, and process interruptions.
To ensure the ventilation fans ran on utility power, except in a power outage situation, where they would be fed from the existing generator, Autopro removed motor load from the UPS.  This allowed four of the six motors to feed off the emergency bus, thereby reducing the client's risk of downtime.
